Stargate SG-1
(www.stargate-sg1.com)
Stargate SG-1 is a science fiction spin-off series from the
1994 Devlin/Emmerich movie Stargate which originally starred
Kurt Russell as Colonel Jack O'Neill and James Spader as Dr. Daniel
Jackson. The film is about an alien artifact, the Stargate, found
in Giza in the 1930s. The Stargate allows matter to be transported
via a wormhole connected to another Stargate on a different planet
in the galaxy. O'Neill, Jackson and a military team travel to the
planet, Abydos, and free the indigenous humans from an alien God
posing as Ra.
The TV show centres around a US military
team, SG-1, which consists of O'Neill (played by Richard Dean Anderson),
Jackson (Michael Shanks), Captain/Major Samantha Carter (Amanda
Tapping) and a Jaffa (alien) called Teal'c (Christopher Judge).
The Stargate on Earth is reactivated a year after the first Abydos
mission and SG-1, along with several other teams, venture through
the 'Gate to explore other worlds and determine the threat from
other members of Ra's race - parasites called the Goa'uld. It films
its sixth and final season in 2002 with the possibility of a feature
film still alive.

Dr.
Daniel Jackson:
Daniel Jackson is an Archaeologist/Anthropologist first seen in
the feature film giving a lecture on the origins of the Great Pyramids.
His "wild" theories ruined his academic reputation and
he took a job translating Egyptian hieroglyphs from the coverstone
of an ancient artifact - the Stargate. After figuring out how to
make it work, Jackson joined the team led by O'Neill that went to
Abydos, where he met and married an indigenous woman, Sha'uri. Jackson
stayed on Abydos at the end of the film.
A year later, Sha'uri is kidnapped
and possessed by a Goa'uld. Jackson returns to Earth to join SG-1
and search for his wife and brother-in-law, who is also taken.
His archaeological skills, ability to speak at least 23 languages
and "talk first, shoot later" attitude prove vital to
SG-1 and the SGC (Stargate Command). After Sha'uri is killed,
Jackson remains with SG-1 to search for her child. He leaves the
team after five years when he receives a fatal dose of radiation
whilst saving a planet. Although he doesn't die, Jackson ascends
to another plane of existence. His current whereabouts are unknown.
