Comic Con 2002 Report

by

Jane

I wanted to tell you all about my Michael sighting at the San Diego Comic Con. I didn't attend the SG-1 panel with CN, et al, choosing instead to see the ladies from 'Andromeda'. And I'm certainly glad of that choice!

My friend and I were waiting in line to get Lexa's and Laura's autographs and I was snapping pics of the two when I noticed a man sitting behind Lexa. He had on a baseball cap and about a days' worth of whiskers, but when he smiled I realized it was Michael. He was kind of slouched behind Lexa, I assume trying to be inconspicuous. My friend and I were so excited, we fairly squealed with delight when we realized who it was and by the time I got to Lexa, I had almost forgotten I was there to get *her* autograph, I was so fixated on seeing Michael.

After collecting the ladies signatures, I rushed around the exhibit trying for a better view of Michael. I saw a fan ask him for his autograph, which Michael graciously gave. So I pulled out an SG-1 postcard I happened to have (hey, hope springs eternal) and waved it at him. He saw it, and me, and nodded. By this time, the crowd was cueing in on who he was and security was closing ranks, so I couldn't get next to him. One of the guards took my postcard and handed it off to Michael. He shouted out, "Which color ink, red or black?" I blanked for a second, then yelled back "Red!" (I must have been having romantic thoughts...) Then he called out, "Who do I make it out to?" "Jane." I answered. Next thing I know, the guard is passing me back my postcard as I'm craning to look up (I'm very short) and over the crowd to see Michael who is actually smiling and *waving* at me. I waved back, and kind of floated away. But that's not all.

My husband was further back in the same line. I had babbled something to him about Michael being there before racing off to get that better view. When hubby gets to see Lexa and she signs a pic, he asks if Michael would sign it as well. He did! Hubby then tells Michael that I am his biggest fan and have been following his career from the beginning. Then he tells Lexa that I am very jealous of her, which they both apparently got a kick out of. (Did I mention I am married to a wonderful, patient and very *understanding* man?) Hubby said he overheard a fan ask Michael if we would be seeing Daniel back on Stargate, to which Michael replied, "Probably a couple of times." Now, I want to make it very clear this is not a direct quote. I am paraphrasing what my husband thinks he remembers Michael saying.

Michael was eating some home made cookies a fan had brought, and drinking a *huge* Starbucks coffee. He looked quite relaxed and happy, and he and Lexa obviously adore each other.

So, this is how I came to see Michael Shanks for the second year in a row. I was lucky enough to see him last year at Comic Con as well, and I can only hope this is merely the beginning of a long-standing yearly tradition, me and Michael meeting. (Remember the movie 'Same Time, Next Year?' Well, a girl can dream...)

Thanks for listening, Jane S.

Many thanks to Jane for the great report and photos!
